UNDERSTAND THE LANGUAGE AND THE MEASUREMENTS USED IN PRECIOUS METALS INDUSTRY SUCH AS GOLD
There are several measurements used to explain or express the purity, weight and the finesse of gold, these are the mostly used measurements in the gold market or industry.
THE WEIGHT MEASUREMENTS
1. Troy Ounce ( oz t) A unit of weight equal to 31.1034768 grams in the standard measurements
2.Gram (g): A metric unit of weight mostly used for smaller quantities of gold
3. Kilogram (kg): A metric unit of weight, equal to 1000 grams or32.15 troy ounces.
4.Pennyweight ( dwt): An old unit of weight, equal to 1/20 of a troy ounce or 1.555 grams.
5. Grain (gr): A small unit of weight equals to 1/480 of a troy ounce or 0.0648 grams.
THE PURITY MEASUREMENTS
1. Fineness (%O): : A measure of gold purity, expressed in parts per thousand ( e.g., 995%o =99.5% gold)
2.Karat (kt): A measure of gold purity with 24- karat being pure gold ( 99.9).
3. Percentage (%): Gold purity expressed as a percentage for example ( 99.9%) gold).
MORE MEASUREMENTS INCLUDE:
1.Carat (ct): A unit of weight for gemstones not to be confused with karat (kt) for gold purity.
2. Tola: A traditional unit of weight in India, equal to 11.66 grams.
3. Baht: A unity of weight in Thailand, equal to 15.244 grams.
